Despite receiving a warm critical reception, Nick Drake’s albums struggled to achieve commercial success during his lifetime. Nick found himself grappling with mental illness and in 1971, he sought solace by returning to his family home in rural Warwickshire, where he lived until his untimely death in 1974 at the age of 26. It was only in the following years that his music began to resonate with a much larger audience, hauntingly echoing the lyrics of his song Fruit Tree.
