Looking back at some of rock and roll’s sixties legends and cult artists is a joy, especially when factoring in today’s music and the lack of material worth giving the time of day to. Music definitely isn’t what it used to be, but thankfully many of the classic bands and famous names from the mid-60s onwards live on.

Some fans of old rock and roll turn to a variety of games to reminisce about their favourite bands and artists from the genre. Not every game is specifically about a certain band but some are, while others feature the music. The fact will always remain, rock and roll music fits with so much pop culture and entertainment. Some of the best movies ever have featured classic tracks, alongside television shows, music videos, sports highlights reels, YouTube videos and so on. It’s a genre that has certainly made its mark on the world, the games industry included.

With a variety of games for rock and roll fans still being played today, we thought we’d go through some of the best of them.

Motorhead

It’s in the name, but the game Motorhead was based purely on Lemmy Kilmister, the lead singer of one of the world’s favourite hard rock bands. True to form, his character in the game drinks, swears, has sex, plays various rock and roll songs, and even casts magical spells as you progress throughout each level. The aim of the game is comical, too, as Lemmy is tasked with saving the other band members from an alliance of pop stars, rappers and musicians from different genres of music. As an aside, there is a very popular Motorhead slot, which you can find at casino.com, a site offering the best RTP slots for English players. The game was created by NetEnt a couple of years ago, and it has since gone on to become one of its most popular releases. It perhaps even surpasses the video game in terms of graphics and use of the band’s music.

Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero is a truly iconic game in its own right. After its release in 2005, it changed the gaming industry altogether and helped inspire a variety of music games that came out after it. With the ability to play along to some rock and roll tunes thanks to a guitar-shaped controller, it’s a game that was well-received all around the world but especially with rock fans. Not only was Guitar Hero fun and entertaining, but it provided fans of the genre with a new type of game to play.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul

After David Bowie featured on Omikron: The Nomad Soul’s soundtrack, fans of his music simply couldn’t get enough of it. In fact, the icon from Brixton actually had a hand in the creation of two characters in the game, a part of the storyline, and even an input on level construction. One character looks exactly like Bowie himself as you explore a dystopian dimension while playing the game as a detective.

Holy Diver

Holy Diver is probably the wackiest game on the list, and it’s entirely understandable as to why. This Japanese fantasy game featured the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio as players were tasked with seeing off the Black Slayer. It must be said, though, that the game doesn’t feature any of the band’s music and offers no themed levels either. Still, his presence is enough to warrant an inclusion on the list, especially when you factor in the design of his character and the all-round entertaining aspect of the game.

Rock Band

Similar to Guitar Hero, Rock Band did a great job at making its players feel like they were actually in a rock band. You could strum along to some of music’s best-ever tracks or slap the bass with your mates. Rocking out never felt so fun.
