Review by Jason Barnard

The prolific Chris Wade has released another record under the Dodson & Fogg moniker. As with all the Leeds based singer-songwriter’s projects the writing and production of his new album  ‘And When The Light Ran Out’ is consistently impressive.

AWTLRO Cover

The opening track ‘We Are Going Home’ opens strongly with Dodson and Fogg’s instantly recognisable sound; laid back folk-rock, a more commercial Tyrannosaurus Rex (in the acoustic sense) with nods to Ray Davies and England’s great songwriters.

The flute, as always works well, embodied by ‘Straight To The Sun’. The album explores the theme of people leaving, new starts and what’s left behind as shown by ‘I Never Want You To Go’.

The last two tracks have a more psych tinge with Ricky Romain’s sitar in full force. Instrumental ‘Sister Storm’ settles you in nicely for the album’s climax, the 8 minute ‘And When The Light Went Out’. The title track retains this Indian edge but brings in the baroque and ties it beautifully with a dash of The Incredible String Band. Highly recommended.
