The Mirrors hail from Norfolk, Virginia USA but have absorbed many of the sounds filtered from across the Atlantic from Swinging London circa 1965/66 – particularly singer’s Dustin Hogue’s Lennonesque delivery.
Their recent EP Ursa Minor has a simple low-fi psychedelia feel.
“Wake Up Yesterday” has a great Nuggets style insistent guitar riff and backwards style guitar break. They sound like the Coral covering the Kinks on “The Death of The Lonesome Gardener” and “Too Late Baby” is reminiscent on the Beatles “No Reply”.
However, they save the best to last with “We Both Know (I Must Be Leaving)”. This final track out does Neil Innes circa Ron Nasty with its gorgeous Imagine era piano chords and Plastic Ono Band style backing.
A promising debut EP and worth the admission alone for “We Both Know (I Must Be Leaving)”.
