Dom Mariani and The Majestic Kelp‘s ‘Hi Seas’ is a gorgeous LP of surf and sun drenched instrumentals. A record that is beautifully recorded, the productions feeds the soul across its 10 tracks. Led by Dom Mariani (guitar), Dom is long established in the Aussie garage and surf music scene. ‘Hi Seas’ continues his collaboration with Stu Loasby (bass), this partnership is ably assisted by Steve Mancini (guitar), Luke Dux (guitar and pedal steel) and drummer Todd Pickett. This is an album that a dream collaboration of Brian Wilson, Sean O’Hagan and Richard Hawley would be proud of.
Released in 1994, The Grip Weeds debut album ‘House of Vibes’ sees a long deserved vinyl re-release. This masterclass in timeless power-pop Byrds/Beatles songwriting and chiming guitars is ageless. Brothers Rick (guitar) and Kurt Reil (drums), Kristin Pinell (guitar) and Mick Hargreaves (bass) bring us garage-pop with a hint of lysergia. Tracks to sample include ‘Salad Days’, ‘Realize’ and ‘Don’t Belong’.
Long time Strange Brew favourite Nick Piunti‘s LP ‘Temporary High’ continues to deliver great songs with strong melodies. Graham Parker, Cheap Trick and Tom Petty fans take note.
