Review by Jason Barnard
Now this is a record. Not showy, no gimmicks nor falsely overwrought vocals. Over ten tracks that are largely acoustic you hear just bloody good songwriting, superbly played and sung by One Mile An Hour.
However this would be to do this London based three piece a disservice. This is an album of absolutely fitting in the current rock scene from:
- “Trouble Roots” – just as good as Ray LaMontagne and should be a massive single
- “In Return” – lovely Jeff Buckley styled ballad
- “Heading The Same Way” – Bonnie Prince Billy take note

“You Are On The Beach” shows a band playing at their peak with the electric guitar riffing with melancholic lyrics ably supported by the group playing in unison. Instrumental “Freight Train” shows a latter day Fleetwood Mac style vignette.

Epic album closer “Nine Eight” branches out over a broody ten minutes jam – again brilliantly played although personally I would have liked the power of it tied around a song.
It’s now available on Snowbird Records at iTunes, amazon and 250 ltd edition 180g vinyl at bandcamp. I can’t recommend it enough. They deserve to be massive and all over Radio 2 and 6 music now!
Take a listen on the band’s website – it won’t disappoint:
