On Mega Dodo
Review by Jason Barnard
Mordecai Smyth cite an impeccable list of 60s influences that the Strange Brew would approve of. From The Kinks (of course), Syd Barrett, to July and The Eyes. Their authentic jaunty sound of English rock from 66-67 has gained praise from legendary producer Mark Wirtz and Strawbs/Fire singer guitarist Dave Lambert.
Their album “Sticky Tape & Rust” presents dead end Kinks crossed with Jeff Lynne led Idle Race with tracks like “Herbert Frowsy”,“Sinister Cyclist”, “Georgina Jones” presenting vignettes of English life and character studies.

“I Love You” sounds like a Lennon bashing out piano chords before breaking into Hey Bulldog whilst “Give Me Some More Space” is splendid baroque’n’roll that wouldn’t have been out of place on Pete Dello’s masterpiece “Into Your Ears”.
Splendid stuff, do invite Mordecai Smyth back for tea and toast:
