GREAT JIM! AMAZING SLADE! HERE IN BRAZIL “SHE DID IT TO ME” WAS SUCCESSFUL!!!
Our first dance was Coz I Luv You because it was in waltz time and the parents could get up after us ! [that was 1985, I took my Slade singles for the dj to play]
She Did It To Me is a great song ! I loved it as the b side to Bangin Man, probably should at least deserved a double a side, great lyric. Slade made some fantastic b sides, not fillers !
When we were kids, bands like Slade or T.Rex meant the world to us. They were the living proof, that there is another world waiting than just a boring 9 to 5 job. Looking back now that was an illusion, cause all those bands were not the “happy group of friends just living for creativity and music”. It’s somehow sad to hear how much arguing took place behind the great “Merry x-mas” and other songs. If there ever is a chance for a “part 3” I would like to know, what happened to the Slade archive. No outtakes or alternate versions have appeared in the re-issue series, some b-sides were taken from vinyl !!! Thanks for these 2 brilliant shows! And I will order Jim’s album and EP, never knew about that stuff and how great it sounds!
These are superb podcast interviews, only just spotted them
I was an enormous Slade superfan – my first gig was when I saw them aged 12 in 1972 at the Odeon New St in Bham. I bought all their records and painted my bedroom red yellow and orange, I made a Noddy hat and a sequinned Slade in Flame denim jacket. I was lucky enough to meet the band at the Midland hotel in Bham for the premier of the film and was on the front page of the Evening Mail in 1974 with them. I was obsessed !
I’ve never heard any of these stories before and the Merry Xmas one is amazing
Jim’s solo stuff is great and I’m so pleased he’s still producing amazing records. Jim, thanks for the memories!!
