Finnish band The Electric Crayon Set follow up their last LP ‘What A Rotter Of A Day’ with another fine 12 inches of blue with ‘Laughing In The Clouds’.
All their anglophile hallmarks can be found across the album. There’s the taut mod-punk guitars and Barrettesque lyrics of ‘Pete is Laughing in the Clouds’, ‘Dreams of the Rain’ that takes it lead from great Beatles b-side of 1966 whilst ‘Where We Are’ takes us towards Gilmour era Floyd.
‘Laughing In The Clouds’ is a consistency strong set, with further highlights including ‘Calling On the Cards’ featuring Vilma Pääkkö, the brilliantly titled ‘Music to watch Accrington Stanley by’ and dark closer ‘Moonlit Graveyard’.
Timo and the band have produced another release that psych-rock fans need to take a trip with.
