Today’s psychedelic and lo-fi music scene is fostered by a dedicated community of listeners and the desire to have something tangible in their hand. Enter Benevolent Antenna Records, a New Jersey-based label spearheaded by Jet Wintzer of Schizo Fun Addict.
Benevolent Antenna Records’s first three releases embody a personal touch that defines the label’s ethos. Each set consists of a transparent 10” vinyl lathe cut record with a handpainted cover, limited to just eleven copies. This extreme scarcity is intentional, designed to pique interest and highlight the value of the music.
Bellavista – The Northwest Room ep (BAR 001): This EP from the San Francisco trio pairs a melodic twist of Byrds meets Velvets with the drone of Slowdive, a perfect match for shoegazing’s renaissance.
The Lounge Bar Orchestra – Sequence 43B ep (BAR 002): Greg Healey takes us back into his parallel world of late 1960s/early 1970s TV themes, unearthing cinematic and jazzy retro gems that are nostalgically familiar but intriguingly fresh.
The Bordellos – The Sunday Experience ep (BAR 003): Hailing from North West England, The Bordellos continue their prolific and naggingly catchy approach to lo-fi pop and punk, with record’s title inspired by the passing of Mark Barton, treasured for his pioneering blog, The Sunday Experience.
