Now then, this is an interesting story. The Ace of Cups were an all female group whose peers were the cream of the late 60s San Francisco music. They opened for Hendrix at the Golden Gate Park in the Summer of Love, their five-part harmonies in sync with the hippy era.

Despite stacks of songs they never released an album before they split in 72. Until now. Almost half a century later they’ve regrouped to release their debut LP.

Featuring friends Buffy Sainte-Marie, Taj Mahal, the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir and other peers, this double album’s themes of communing and liberal values resonates today.

Tracks to listen out for on this double album include the reflective ‘We Can’t Go Back Again’, the country rock feel ‘The Well’ featuring Bob Weir on vocals, and hook laden ‘Simplicity’.

The band’s stripped back partnership with Taj Mahal on ‘Life In Your Hands’ works perfectly, whilst the ambitious Medley (The Hermit / The Flame Still Burns / Gold and Green / Living In The Country) covers all that’s best with the Ace of Cups.
