Very few bands in rock history have hit the commercial heights of Guns N’ Roses. Still, to this day, we hear their music, we see their merchandise, and they’re even touring.
You have to remember, this is a band that formed in Los Angeles back in 1985. Despite this, more than 40 years later, they’re still generating serious revenue from their music and image.
Records, Sales, and Tours
Appetite for Destruction, released in 1987, became the best-selling debut album in US chart history. Worldwide, they managed to shift around 30 million copies.
Use Your Illusion I and II, released simultaneously in 1991, debuted at #1 and #2 on the Billboard 200 in the same week. G N’ R Lies (1988) added another 10 million global copies sold as well.
The Not In This Lifetime Tour (2016-2019), which included a long-awaited reunion, grossed $584 million across 158 shows. That made it the 11th highest-grossing tour in music history. Since then, they’ve added another 346 shows.
Over their whole career, they’ve sold over 100 million records across the globe, generating billions of dollars in revenue.
More Than Just Music
Guns N’ Roses didn’t just make money from their music. The band’s image became so large that they could sell T-shirts, vinyls, memorabilia, and even sell their IP.
Their IP moved some serious numbers, especially when they hit the digital entertainment industry. Back in 2016, game developer NetEnt ended up launching one of the most iconic casino games in the industry, featuring tracks like “Welcome to the Jungle”. Band members such as Slash appear on the reels, and there is an Appetite For Destruction wild symbol.
Collaborations with fashion brands became a big thing as well. Off-White, Represent, Primark, H&M, and many more well-known brands all partnered with this band, providing them with some healthy cheques.
Are They Still Earning?
Yes, despite being formed over 40 years ago, the band shows no signs of slowing down. The 2026 World Tour alone is set to bring in millions for the reunited group.
Merchandise sales are still strong as well. You can find such merchandise in most UK high-street stores nowadays, due to partnerships with brands like Primark and H&M.
Plus, they have streaming revenue. They still get billions of streams on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and more. Each of these streams is generating income for the band.
Legacy and Industry Impact
The impact Guns N’ Roses left on the industry was huge, not just musically, but also commercially.
The brand rewrote the playbook for what a classic rock act could achieve. They created great music, did very well commercially, and are still playing to this day.
For any band, regardless of genre, this is seriously impressive. They hit it off straight away with their debut album, and still, to this day, they’re considered one of the best bands on earth.
The fact that they’re not even done touring yet is most impressive. Decades of performing, and they’re still making hundreds of millions.
