When I spoke to Doug ‘Cosmo’ Clifford, Creedence Clearwater Revival founding member, last year he promised there was much more in his vaults ready for release. Since then he has re-discovered a long-lost album called California Gold featuring Bobby Whitlock on lead vocals, singing 10 original songs he and Cosmo wrote together.
Bobby Whitlock, co-founder of Derek & The Dominos, is on top form with Cosmo, aided by legendary Stax producer/writer and bassist Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn, plus Tom Miller on bass and David Vega and Mike O’Neill on guitar. As you’d expect the songs are consistently strong tied to a classic blues and roots rock feel typified by ‘Get Down Fever’.
