George Bunnell, Mark Weitz, Howie Anderson, Gene Gunnels and Randy Seol join Jason Barnard of The Strange Brew Podcast to talk through six decades of Strawberry Alarm Clock, from their days as Thee Sixpence to their new album Where’s One?
The group explain how their current line-up came together, talk through the unusual two-drummer set-up they still use live, the making of Where’s One?, and go right back to the writing and recording of Incense and Peppermints, the song that took them to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1967.
There’s also the story of how they landed on their name at one o’clock in the morning, the tug of war over their third album, and Randy Seol’s account of the night his flaming stage act went wrong and put Keith Moon in a mood for the rest of the evening.
