My ol mate Bobby Harrison passed away today 11.2 .22 on mersea island in Essex .we had known each other for many years I would often bash into him around the island we would chat about stuff .he was great musician .he could sing a mean rock song .he had a very long history in music .I’m presently listening to his stuff on utube .plum in bobbyharrison snafu.iGod bless you Bobby ?I will miss him very much .

Sorry to hear about Bobby although I haven’t seen him for many years. We used to go around with a few friends to the Jazz Clubs in the late 50´s and in 1959 we both got called up for our National Service and via the Musicians Wanted Ad page in the Melody Maker, – (anyone remember that ?) arranged to join the Royal Inniskillin Fusiliers as drummers. We did our basic training in N.Ireland and then joined the Regimental Band in Wuppertal in Germany. Bobby was also a fair boxer and a good footballer and played soccer for the Irish Brigade. on returning to the UK , The Regiment was kitted out for Tropical climates and travelled on a Troopship the SS Devonshire to Mombasa via the Med, Suez Canal, Aden and Bahrein. We detrained in Mombasa and travelled by train to Gil Gil outside Nairobi. The Reg Band played a few “gigs” among them the Nairobi Racecourse whilst the 8 piece Dance Band did a few gigs for the Police and Railway remote communities, who had never seen a live band before only Vic Sylvester records !
We both got demobbed in Feb 1961 and returned home via Malta just before Uhuru was granted to Kenya. That was about the last time I saw Bobby who was playing with Nat Temple’s Band in Scotland ? A few years later he called in to see me and my family in Surrey as he was living in Esher, He’s changed from the Khaki uniform in to the long hair and Carnaby Street clothes for his new image ? That was truly the last time I saw him. He was a great guy and very talented.
